Prepper Skills that will help you prepare for any emergency

online map and compass course

These skills can be used to help you survive. These skills include knitting, orienteering and bushcrafting. While there are no specific skills that will be required for all situations, you can use all of them to help you prepare for an emergency. These skills are a good starting point. To help prioritize skills, you can use your intuition. Knowing how to assess your skills is important, as some items might be more important than others.

Survivalists

You need to be able to use multiple skills to survive in a SHTF situation. Survivalists learn new tools and focus on different tasks. Survivalists learn to adapt to new circumstances and thrive in tough situations. They are more prepared to face any situation that could lead directly to the SHTF. Some common prepper skills are:

Bushcrafters

Learning how to fish requires a compass and a map. To locate the right spot for fishing, you need to be familiar with the water flow. Using tools is essential as the process of fishing can attract unwanted attention in the bush. Learn how to properly clean your prey. Fish, for example, should be gutted from the tail to the head while cats and birds should be scaled from the head down.

Orienteers

Knowing how to navigate using a map is an essential prepper skill that is often forgotten. Although it is a lost art, it can be rewarding once you master the basics. BCCB is offering several courses in orienteering at Don Williams Rec Area. Cael Weinland, an Eagle Scout Candidat, designed the courses. Troop 116 also built several. Remember to be careful when using orienteering tracks and to leave no trace.

Knitters

Although knitting might not seem to be an essential skill for SHTF scenarios (Sudden Hyper Terrible flood), it can prove useful in survival situations where you are left stranded. Even though knitting does not directly help in prepping efforts during civil war, supply line failures and natural disasters (SHTF), it can still be useful if your prepper situation is a few years away.

Sewers

Investigating sewers is a great place to find out more about prepper life. This can help you locate hidden tunnels, and show you how the sewer machine works. It will also teach you how to identify and avoid sewage-borne illnesses. By studying the creatures and building materials living in sewer systems, you will also be able to learn about the ecology of these systems. These skills will help you to be a better Prepper. These are just a few ways to be prepared in an emergency.

Trappers

It is essential to know how to build primitive traps if you want to be a prepper. A trap works better than a gun, because it can continue to function even when you're away. Building traps takes skill and patience. Traps are much easier than guns but they do have some drawbacks. For starters, store-bought traps are far inferior to primitive traps. And you'll need to spend time watching instructional videos and reading books on trap construction. Make several traps before you are ready to face a real emergency.

Fishermen

Many people believe they will be hunters if there is a SHTF. Hunting is an important skill, but it might not be possible in all locations. Also, many animals may not be able to cope with sudden increases in population. Fisherman are better options because they can be found almost anywhere and are not affected by weather or geographical issues. Preppers can also learn fishing skills without special knowledge.

How To

How to preserve food for survival

To preserve food in an emergency situation, drying is the best option. Drying foods removes moisture which makes them last longer. It also helps to reduce the growth of bacteria.

Because they don't need to be prepared, dried fruits are ideal for snacking during emergencies. Dried fruits are easy to transport and can be eaten as much as you like without worrying about weight gain.

It is possible to dry fruit at-home using a drying rack, but a solar oven would be more practical. You can dry almost any food with a solar oven, including meat, fish and vegetables.

Airtightness is the most important aspect of food preservation. This will prevent oxygen from getting into the container and spoiling food. You don't need to use preservatives if the container is sealed tightly enough.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt prevents mold growth. Follow this step with vinegar. Vinegar kills bad bacteria and stops mold growth.

To get started, you'll need to cut up your food into small pieces. You can use a knife or scissors. Pack everything carefully so there is no air in the container

Next, place the food inside a plastic bag. Keep the food in the bag until it dries completely.

Once the food has dried, you can place it in a sealed bag. Take care not to let any food touch it.
