How To

How to keep food alive in a survival situation

The best way to preserve food in a long-term emergency is by drying it. Drying foods removes moisture which makes them last longer. It also decreases the risk of bacteria growth.

Dry fruits are great snacks for emergencies because they don’t require preparation. Dried fruits are easy to transport and can be eaten as much as you like without worrying about weight gain.

It is possible to dry fruit at-home using a drying rack, but a solar oven would be more practical. A solar oven can be used to dry many foods, such as meat, fish, and vegetables.

Food preservation is best done by making sure it is airtight. This stops oxygen from entering the container, which can cause food to spoil. If you seal the container tightly enough, there won't be any need to add preservatives.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt helps prevent mold growth. Next, you should add vinegar. Vinegar kills bad bacteria and stops mold growth.

You will need to first cut your food into small pieces. You can use a knife or scissors. It is important to pack everything tightly so that air doesn't get in the container.

Place the food into a plastic bag. Then seal the bag and place it somewhere warm to dry completely.

Once the food has dried, you can place it in a sealed bag. Be careful not to let anything touch the food.
